Choreografei Birutei Letukaitei M.K. Čiurlionio „Jūra“ tapo pagrindine metafora, siekiant kalbėti apie pakitusį šiuolaikinio žmogaus ir gamtos santykį, apie šių dienų skaudulius: toksinėmis medžiagomis užterštą Baltijos jūrą ir visuomenę, kuri užteršta fobijomis, egoizmu ir apatija. Pažeista gamtos ir žmogaus pusiausvyra atneša abipusius negrįžtamus praradimus.

„Mokslininkai seniai ištyrė ir nustatė, kad Baltijos jūra yra labiausiai chemiškai užteršta jūra pasaulyje, kad joje pagautų žuvų negalima valgyti [...] Baltijos jūra yra radioaktyviausia ne tik tarp jūrų, bet ir apskritai radioaktyviausias vandens telkinys pasaulyje. “ ( ELTA)

„Ko skundiesi, jūra?“, – daugiau kaip prieš 100 metų klausė kompozitorius, lyg nujausdamas būsimą Baltijos aimaną.

Choreographer Birutė Letukaitė interpreted "The Sea" by the famous Lithuanian composer M.K. Čiurlionis as the main metaphor, which allows her to speak about the shifted relations between man and nature and about the most sorrowful things in today's Lithuania: the Baltic sea polluted by toxic materials and the society polluted by phobias, egoism and apathy. According to the artist, violated balance between culture and nature causes mutual irreversible losses.

"The scientist have a long time ago determined that the Baltic sea is the most chemically polluted sea in the planet, that the fish which is caught here can absolutely not be eaten [...] The Baltic sea is not only the most radioactive sea, but it is the most radioactive body of water in the world" (ELTA)

Why do you murmur, oh sea? – the composer asked more than a 100 years earlier, as if he anticipated the Sea's lament.

Kaunas Dance Theatre AURA is the oldest and the only professional municipal contemporary dance theatre in Lithuania and has existed for more than a quarter of the century. The artistic director of the company is its founder, former dancer and now the famous choreographer and dance teacher Birutė Letukaitė. Aura has shown dozens performances in Lithuania and has visited 25 foreign countries. The country’s best performers of contemporary dance, whose technical and artistic skills have been acclaimed locally and internationally, have studied at the studio of the Kaunas Dance Theatre AURA. Since 1989 Aura has been organising the International Festival of Modern Dance in Kaunas.
