A New Platform for Artists to Connect and Collaborate – LNDT “Burės”

The Lithuanian National Drama Theater (LNDT), seeking to foster collaboration among artists and create opportunities for theater creative artists to present their work on various stages across the country, invited creators and representatives of state theaters and nongovernmental organizations to explore the “Burės” platform. Held for the first time at the LNDT, the two-day event opened new perspectives and connections for participants and received a great deal of positive feedback.

The LNDT Will Close Its Season with a Play About the Frenzy of Youth, “Desire”

At the end of May, the Lithuanian National Drama Theater (LNDT) will present the play “Desire” in its New Stage, a work that reflects on the currently widespread obsession with youth and novelty. This will be the fifth premiere of the LNDT’s 86th season and the first work in Lithuania by an artist from South America, specifically Chile, who is already widely recognized in Europe.

Domas Raibys Won the European Residency Program Competition Organized by the LNDT

The Lithuanian National Drama Theater, seeking to encourage the creation of new stage texts, has been organizing the European Residency Program competition for the fourth consecutive year in collaboration with partners from France, Spain, Belgium, and Croatia. Each partner selects a representative for their country. This year, out of 11 other candidates, comedian and writer Domas Raibys won the competition in Lithuania, after presenting the jury with an idea for a black comedy about birds.

Young Directors on the “Burės” Platform: This Reflects Theaters’ Openness to Broader Contact

In 2026, the Lithuanian National Drama Theater (LNDT) will launch “Burės,” a platform consisting of three distinct sessions where theater artists will be able to introduce themselves, discuss the themes of their work, and find like-minded individuals or producers, as well as showcase works already in development. The need for such a networking platform became apparent at an event organized by the Lithuanian Theater Center, where young creators expressed a lack of places where they could establish contacts with representatives from various stages. In their view, major institutions often work with a narrow circle of artists, while others remain unnoticed, uninvited, and unsure of how to initiate collaboration.

The 20th "Versmė" Dramaturgy Festival Has Begun

Yesterday marked the opening of the 20th "Versmė" dramaturgy festival, organized by the Lithuanian National Drama Theater. It began with the event "Lost Springs." This featured readings of works from various genres - excerpts from plays and prose, poetry, and diaries - along with the creation of new drama from the collective sound of these texts, accompanied by a ritualistic performance on stage. Gytis Ivanauskas, Rytis Saladžius, Nelė Savičenko, Dainius Gavenonis, Rasa Samuolytė, Rimantė Valiukaitė, Šarūnas Rapolas Meliešius, and Urtė Rimkevičiūtė read their selected and original works.

LNDT Starts the 86th Season With the Slogan ”We Cannot Be Without One Another”

The Lithuanian National Drama Theater, having invited media representatives and audience members to the Main Stage where a break between rehearsals for the premiere of "Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter" was taking place, presented its 86th season. The format of the event was the same as last year - the directors of all the season’s premieres asked each other questions. For its 86th season, the LNDT plans to present five premieres, the first of which is already next week.

LNDT performances abroad 15 times: visits to Taipei, Antwerp, Brno and others

During the 85th season of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, the plays of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre were performed abroad 15 times. Most recently, the first Asian tour of ‘Republic’ took place, where the play was presented to the Taiwanese audience, and the most Golden Stage Crosses-winning LNDT play ‘Quanta’, directed by Lukasz Twarkowski in May was shown in the Czech Republic at the National Theatre in Brno, in April at the DeSingel Theatre in Antwerp, and last December at the Boska Komedia Festival in Krakow.

Five Golden Stage Crosses for the Creators of LDNT's "Quanta" and "Stand-up for Meaning and Meaninglessness"

Lithuanian National Drama Theatre performances have won as many as five Golden Stage Crosses this year! Łukasz Twarkowski was awarded for the direction of Quanta, Fabien Lédé for its set design, and Eugenijus Sabaliauskas, the lighting designer of this production, also won an award. "Quanta" was produced in collaboration with the Onassis Stegi Arts Centre in Athens (Greece), the De Singel Theatre in Antwerp (Belgium), the National Theatre in Brno (Czech Republic), the Boska Komedia International Theatre Festival in Krakow, and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw (Poland).

First LNDT premiere in 2025 - a play about manipulation "The Birds"

The Polish-French director and playwright Anna Smolar has been rehearsing at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre (LNDT) for some time now – she is working on a new premiere "The Birds", which will be presented on 14-16 March. Smolar is known to Lithuanian audiences for her play “Slow Motion”, which premiered at the National Art Gallery in 2019 due to the reconstruction of LNDT. The new work "The Birds" deals with similar themes - mechanisms of power and manipulation. This piece is inspired by the 2016 memoirs of Tippi Hedren, Hollywood actress and star of Alfred Hitchcock's films.

Lukasz Twarkowski's new play ‘Quanta’ will open LNDT's 85th season

On 13 September, the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre (LNDT) will open its 85th season with a premiere at the Great Hall. The new play ‘Quanta’ will be presented by director Lukasz Twarkowski, who started his international directing career at the LNDT - his 2017 production ‘Lokis’ won four Golden Stage Crosses – National Theatre prizes in Lithuania.
