Grzegorz Jarzyna, the Polish director renowned in Europe, started rehearsals at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. He is working on a play based on Stanislaw Lem’s novel Solaris, which is scheduled to premiere at the New Hall of the LNDT in September this year. The cast includes Nelė Savičenko, Arūnas Sakalauskas, Martynas Nedzinskas, Gytis Ivanauskas, Rasa Samuolytė, Dainius Gavenonis, Kęstutis Cicėnas, and Oneida Kunsunga.

The first stage of rehearsals of Marius Ivaškevičius’s drama The Sleepers, the upcoming premiere at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, is over. “Alice”, the new production of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, addresses the consequences of the 2015 terrorist attack in the Bataclan nightclub in Paris. How can justice be restored when 130 people lost their lives?
‘To me, the most important thing was to show the ways in which the events affect the characters’ emotions and cause deep traumatic experiences. We all know about those events, don’t we? Each of us was somewhere when this happened. Some were in Paris, others in Vilnius. So what? The psyche can be affected from a distance, and people very easily identify with traumas,’ says Laurynas Adomaitis, the playwright.

At the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, this autumn has been generous with premieres. Audiences have already seen “Respublika”, “Dialogues” and “Marius Repšys on Stage” with “Alice” is set to premiere on 23 October. On 3, 4, and 5 September, the 81st season of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre will open with the premiere of “Respublika”, directed by Łukasz Twarkowski. It is a production of a remarkable breadth and form which, according to the director, will draw the audience into action and into a closed commune. Łukasz Twarkowski is interested in the secrets of the contemporary mindset, as well as the changed ways of receiving and processing information, so to reach this contemporary viewer, Twarkowski chooses novel forms of theatre which merge video footage, acting, visual arts, and music. The latter is especially meaningful in “Respublika”.

Last year the show "Tartiufas", dir. Oskaras Koršunovas, has shaken the audience of international theatre festival in Avignon, France, and this year the show intends to conquer the sympathies of Chinese spectators. Marina Davydova, a renowned Russian theater critic and producer presented her first play “Eternal Russia” at the Berlin HAU Hebbel am Ufer Theater.
