About
Translated from Korean (to English to Lithuanian by Martynas Šiaučiūnas-Kačinskas)
A performance by Povilas Budrys, based on the novel "Evidence" by South Korean writer Haïlji, is presented for the first time in Lithuanian theatre. This novel can be described as a detective story of the nature of consciousness, depicting a strange world where illusions are intertwined with reality. It is an opportunity to look at the relationship between the world and human consciousness in a different way, without giving priority to either reality or imagination. Only illusion is the perfection of order because the real world often does not correspond to reality.
Haïlji (born Rim Jong Joo) is one of the most interesting contemporary South Korean writers, who has a special bond with Lithuania. He has visited our country several times and has written a well-received novel, "The Republic of Užupis". The author studied at Seoul University and later at the Universities of Poitiers and Limoges in France. He has published thirteen novels, short stories, and two collections of poems. His novels have been made into films and a play. His novel "Evidence" is his second book published in Lithuanian (2016).
Haïlji says: "Life and death are one, to live is to die, and to die is to live. If you think that death is just a part of life and life is just a part of death, you will realize that there is no need to be sad."
