Versmė

Nurturing national drama is one of the LNDT’s primary goals. Previously held as two separate events by the LNDT – the “Versmė” national dramaturgy festival and the Contemporary Drama Readings – were merged in 2018 into a single large-scale ongoing project: the “Versmė” contemporary dramaturgy festival, while preserving and continuing the objectives of both previously separate events. The festival’s activities aim to promote the development and dissemination of national dramaturgy and to introduce trends in contemporary playwriting to Lithuanian audiences.

The “Versmė” festival is developed year-round: plays are selected for translation, and creative workshops, public lectures, and seminars are held. Every fall, audiences are invited to discover the work of promising new Lithuanian playwrights and to participate in readings of translated plays that showcase the drama of a specific country and its theatrical landscape.
